Oppo Reno 4 Pro 5G goes official w/ Snapdragon 765G, £699 price - 9to5Google

proc.indah.link

The Oppo Reno 4 Pro 5G and wider Reno 4 series has now officially launched as a step-up over the previous models with 5G being the core addition to the updated handset.

Earlier versions of the Reno 4 series were held back with slightly underwhelming Snapdragon 720G chipsets, but this late-2020 refresh should provide the much-needed “shot in the arm” for the lineup. The Oppo Reno 4 Pro 5G is also joined by a standard Reno 4 and a budget-conscious Reno 4 Z.

This time around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G is the biggest addition to the Oppo Reno 4 Pro 5G and Reno 4, which has become the go-to chipset for leveraging affordability and 5G-connectivity. Meanwhile, the Reno Z comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 800 series chip.

The top tier Reno 4 Pro 5G measures in at 6.5-inches and comes with a 90Hz FHD+ curved AMOLED that also includes an upper-left punch-hole cut out for the selfie camera. Biometric security is offered via an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Reno 4 has a 6.4-inch 60Hz flat FHD+ AMOLED panel, while the Reno 4Z includes a 6.57-inch FHD+ 120Hz flat LCD display. Both cheaper versions include dual punch-hole notches in the upper-left of their respective displays.

As mentioned it relies on the Snapdragon 765G, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage rounding off the main specifications. There is also a 4,000mAh battery that can be topped up at 65W charge speeds using the proprietary SuperVOOC charge brick. Unfortunately, there is no wireless charging here though.

The standard Reno 4 includes the same chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. It also has a slightly larger 4,020mAh battery that includes 65W SuperVOOC charging. The cheapest of the bunch includes that Dimensity 800 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The 4,000mAh internal battery is only topped up at 18W charge speeds though.

Round back, the Reno Pro 4 5G comes packing a 48-megapixel main camera setup that is paired with a 12-megapixel utlra-wide, and 13-megapixel telephoto zoom at 3x. The Reno 4 includes the same main sensor but steps down to an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and includes a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor to round off its camera setup. While the Reno 4 Z includes a 48-megapixel main sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 2-megapixel monochrome sensor, and 2-megapixel “retro” sensor.

You’ll be able to pick up the Reno Pro 4 5G and Reno 4 in Galactic Blue and Space Black, while the Reno 4 Z is available in Dew White and Ink Black. Prices for each device start at £699 (~$900), £499 (~$640), and £329 (~$420) respectively. We’ll have a full review of the Oppo Reno 4 Pro 5G in the coming weeks as we spend more time with the impressive-looking handset — so stay tuned.

Microsoft refreshes the Surface Pro X with the Microsoft SQ2 processor based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 - XDA Developers

proc.indah.link

Early last month we learned that Microsoft was working on a refresh for last year’s Surface Pro X. At the time, sources familiar with the matter had revealed that the Surface Pro X refresh would feature the same design, but it will be offered in a new ‘Platinum’ color variant with new Type Cover color options. We’d also learned that the device would feature Microsoft’s new SQ2 processor. Now, the company has finally lifted the covers off the new Surface Pro X and it’s exactly what we expected.

Microsoft has essentially upgraded the top-end SKUs of last year’s Surface Pro X with its new SQ2 processor and introduced a new Platinum color option for the device. The base variants of the Surface Pro X will still feature the older SQ1 processor and they’ll be sold alongside the new Surface Pro X. As expected, Microsoft’s new SQ2 processor was designed in collaboration with Qualcomm and it’s based on the company’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 platform.

Microsoft claims that its new SQ2 chip is the fastest processor in its class, which is capable of offering better performance while using less battery. To further improve the Surface Pro X’s performance, Microsoft has also made some enhancements to Windows on ARM. These include updates and optimizations to the Visual Studio Code for Windows on ARM, which is expected to boost overall performance and increase battery life (up to 15 hours) across all Surface Pro X configurations (including the ones powered by Microsoft’s SQ1 chip).

Microsoft Surface Pro X

Along with the new Surface Pro X and the Surface Laptop Go, Microsoft unveiled three new colors for the Signature Keyboard — Platinum, Ice Blue, and Poppy Red — at the event.

The company also unveiled the new Designer Compact Keyboard, a wireless Number Pad, a 4K Wireless Display Adapter, a Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse, and a new Sandstone color variant for the Microsoft Modern Mobile Mouse.

Pricing & Availability

The updated Microsoft Surface Pro X with the company’s new SQ2 processor is already up for pre-order on the Microsoft Store in select regions. The device is priced starting at $1,499.99, and it will be available across other retailers starting from October 13th.

The new Microsoft Designer Compact Keyboard is priced at $69.99, the new wireless Number Pad is priced at $24.99, the 4K Wireless Display Adapter is priced at $69.99, and the new Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse is priced at $49.99. As of now, the company hasn’t released the availability information for these accessories.

Dell is bringing Intel Xe graphics to its brand new thin-and-light XPS 13 laptops - PC Gamer

proc.indah.link

Dell has announced that the XPS 13 and XPS 13 2-in-1 have been through yet another hardware refresher. As part of Intel’s Evo portfolio, the new generation of XPS 13 laptops will come sporting Intel’s 11th Gen, Tiger Lake processors along with a host of other design updates.

We’re looking at LPDDR4x 4,267MHz memory (as opposed to the 3,733MHz of the previous version) and both models will be supporting Intel’s Xe integrated graphics, as well as Thunderbolt 4 ports. The 2-in-1 models will also boast 7% larger displays than previous generation models.

You can check out our Tiger Lake testing here for an idea of what Intel Xe and the 10nm SuperFin process can offer. The long and short: Intel Xe is an impressive improvement on Ice Lake's integrated graphics, and we already enjoyed those chips for a little light gaming.

A developer edition of the XPS 13 will be available, too (via The Verge). A Linux-based device that’ll be the first laptop to have Ubuntu 20.04 LTS pre-installed on it, so you can start developing right out of the box.

Not only this, Dell is doing its part for the earth too, with all new XPS 2020 models swaddled in sustainably sourced packaging—made partially from recycled, ocean plastics.

The new models are available to purchase now, with the XPS 13 starting at $999 and the 2-in-1 going for $1,249. There are two colour options to choose from, both of which make them sound like exotic car models: “platinum silver with black carbon fiber interior” and “frost with arctic white woven glass interior”.

Sounds positively swanky. I think I’d like to take one out for a spin.

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University Deploys AMD EPYC™ Processors with Over 2 Petaflops of Computing Power Dedicated to Scientific Research - GlobeNewswire

proc.indah.link
— AMD EPYC™ Processors provide superior cost-performance and high core density —TOKYO, Oct. 01, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) , announced the deployment of AMD EPYC™ 7702 processors for use in a new, high performance computing system. The EPYC processor-based supercomputer will deliver the 2.36 petaflops of computing power OIST plans to use for scientific research at the University.
The Scientific Computing & Data Analysis Section (SCDA) of OIST plans to implement the new supercomputer for supporting OIST computationally intensive research ranging from bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, and physics. SCDA adopted AMD EPYC after significant growth, including a 2X increase in users.
“2020 is a milestone year for OIST with new research units expanding the number of research areas. This growth is driving a significant increase in our computational needs,” said Eddy Taillefer, Ph.D., Section Leader, Scientific Computing & Data Analysis Section. “Under the common resource model for which the computing system is shared by all OIST users we needed a significant increase in core-count capacity to both absorb these demands and cope with the significant growth of OIST. The latest AMD EPYC processor was the only technology that could match this core-count need in a cost-performance effective way.”
Key factors of OIST’s selection of the AMD EPYC processors included superior cost-performance, memory/PCIe® bandwidth, and high core counts per server. OIST plans to also consider EPYC processors for other growing computational needs for University researchers in the future.
“AMD is proud to be working with leading global institutions to bring scientific research to the forefront through the power of high performance computing technology,” said Ram Peddibhotla, corporate vice president, EPYC product management, AMD. “With high performance capabilities, ease of management and scalability, 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors can assist OIST researchers with advancing technological innovations and supporting their research goals in bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, and physics.”AMD EPYC™ 7702 Processor SpecificationsSupporting ResourcesLearn more about AMD EPYC processors hereLearn more about AMD EPYC world records hereBecome a fan of AMD on FacebookFollow AMD on TwitterAbout AMD

After September slump, trader plays AMD stock for fourth-quarter rally - CNBC

proc.indah.link

Advanced Micro Devices is on track to close out September lower.

The chipmaker has fallen 10% this month, while the SMH semiconductor ETF has remained largely flat.

Longtime AMD bull Todd Gordon, founder of TradingAnalysis.com, sees strong demand and solid technicals as laying the groundwork for a breakout in the fourth quarter.

"We are looking ahead to these new next-gen Zen 3-based CPUs. … Everyone is very much looking forward to this in the tech community," Gordon told CNBC's "Trading Nation" on Tuesday. "Analysts were expecting sales to cool ahead of those new chips, but the customers continue to purchase the AMD chips even ahead of the new launch."

Gordon expects AMD to expand market share, eating into Intel's market slice of the chips space. Increased demand for PCs and chips in the work-from-home environment should also contribute to gains, he said.

"AMD is expected to report earnings on Oct. 27. Right now they have a trailing [price-earnings ratio] of about 160 which is quite expensive. But, keep this in mind, they're expected to increase their earnings per share by about 72% from last year to this year, and they're still expected to grow another 51% next year. The company is only trading 45 times forward earnings with a 50% increase in earnings per share so I continue to be bullish here," said Gordon.

Instead of seeing recent weakness as a warning, Gordon sees it as an opportunity – he said the pullback to the mid-$70s coincides with the 50-day moving average and should act as support.

"I own the stock, I would consider adding to the stock. I hold about 3.5% AMD position in my portfolio which is quite large, but I wouldn't mind picking that up to 4-4.5%," said Gordon.

One way to play AMD, he said, is to put on an options trade that takes you through more than half of the fourth quarter. He's looking at buying the 86 call with Nov. 20 expiration and selling the 100 strike call.

"It's a $15 spread for which you will pay $4.18 cents or $418. Max potential profit would be $1,082," he said Tuesday afternoon

AMD was trading Wednesday at more than $81. A move to $100, his 100 strike call, implies 22% upside.

Disclosure: Gordon holds AMD.
