Vulnerabilities in Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip have left A billion or more Android devices are vulnerable to hacks, researchers claims.
According to researchers at Check Point security, they have discovered more than 400 code vulnerabilities in the digital signal processors (DSPs) of Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips. These vulnerabilities, nicknamed "Achilles," allow attackers to quietly record calls, steal data, render devices unusable, and even install malware.
The "Achilles," can be exploited when a target downloads a video or other content that's rendered by the chip.
Asked, Qualcomm stated they acknowledged the vulnerabilities but maintains "no evidence" of active exploits has been found. They further claimed users could minimize their risk by downloading apps only from "trusted" outlets like the Google Play Store.
Qualcomm has also released a fix for the flaws, but it has yet to be incorporated into the Android OS or any other Snapdragon Android device.
