The ThinkPad T14s AMD is cheaper and much faster - Notebookcheck.net

Since Lenovo now offers Intel and AMD models under the same branding this year, many users want to know which version is better. In addition to the CPU manufacturer, there are also differences in terms of features. We have now reviewed both models of the ThinkPad T14s and had a closer look at the differences.

We start with the performance. The Intel models still use Comet Lake-U CPUs, because they have (optional) vPro support. However, neither the CPUs, nor the integrated GPUs stand a chance against the current Ryzen Pro 4000 chips. The devices are still on par in terms of single-core performance, but as soon as you stress more cores or the graphics card, the AMD is clearly ahead and you can even play some games on it.

The additional performance does not really affect the emissions all that much. The fan is slightly louder, but the surface temperatures are a bit lower in return. The idle power consumption is also better on the Intel model, which affects the battery runtime as well. However, 13 hours video playback and 10 hours in our Wi-Fi test for the AMD ThinkPad T14s is not bad at all.

Each version has its own advantages/disadvantages in terms of ports, because the AMD model lacks Thunderbolt 3, but offers faster Bluetooth and HDMI 2.0. So if you do not want to use an external graphics card, you can get the AMD model without any reservations.

The final aspect is the price. Our test unit is an education model with an excellent price-performance ratio, but the topseller units for regular customers are also cheaper than comparable Intel SKUs.
