Before AMD releases the Renoir-U successor codenamed Cezanne in early 2021 as predicted by most of the previous rumors, we could actually see a refreshed Renoir batch rushed to counter Intel’s Tiger Lake release. Fresh rumors state that these intermediary versions are codenamed Lucienne and only feature minor improvements. However, some Ashes of the Singularity benchmark results spotted by Twitter user TUM_APISAK suggest that the Lucienne APUs may also get improved iGPUs.
The first AotS results spotted by APISAK mention that the Lucienne APU is the Ryzen 7 5700U model, but, since there was no direct comparison with previous versions, the performance gains remained shrouded in uncertainty. Some Twitter commenters pointed out that the 5700U model seems to be around 9% faster compared to the currently available Ryzen 7 4800U APU, but the provided tests had slightly different settings, so exact performance difference was still up in the air.
Later on, APISAK provided a direct comparison test showing that the 5700U model is 33% faster than the 4800U. There still are some problematic aspects here, however, as a fairer comparison would be between 5700U and 4700U. That’s why we see the 5700U CPU performance still lagging behind the 4800U, while the GPU performance is substantially increased. Keeping this aspect in mind, the iGPU gains appear to be almost identical to the performance difference between the Vega 11 and the Vega 8.
Based on these findings, it is highly likely that we could see Vega 8 iGPUs on the lower-end Lucienne models, whereas the top-of-the-line variants would get the Vega 11 iGPUs. We are not yet sure when these new APUs are supposed to be hitting the market, but, according to a tweet from MebiuW, laptop OEMs are already in testing out Ryzen 5 5500U and Ryzen 7 5700U models. Also, it looks like the upcoming Cezane APUs scheduled for early 2021 will add more Ryzen 5000U models like the Ryzen 5 5600U, and this could create confusion among the AMD fandom.
