HP debuts company’s first MediaTek-powered Chromebook for $259 - Chrome Unboxed

HP is no stranger to ARM processors in Chromebooks but it has been a while since we’ve seen a device with that flavor of CPU. As a matter of fact, HP hasn’t used an ARM processor since 2014 when the Tegra K1 CPU was still a thing but those things are dinosaurs. Six years later, HP has quietly re-entered the ARM space with a new budget-friendly Chromebook powered by the same MediaTek processor found in the wildly popular Lenovo Chromebook Duet.

HP Chromebook 11a

The new HP isn’t going to knock anyone’s socks off but its Indigo Blue color is eye-catching if nothing else. The MediaTek MT8183 processor is capable of handling itself quite well for casual users but the HP Chromebook 11a only comes bearing a scant 32GB of storage. So, don’t plan on installing a ton of Android applications. Port selection is minimal as well. You’ll get one each USB-A and USB-C but HP did throw in a MicroSD card reader and that’s a plus. This Chromebook is aimed at the budget market with a price tag of $259 but for a device with a touchscreen and a decent processor, it will likely be a good seller. Here’s a closer look at the HP Chromebook 11a:

  • Chrome OS
  • MediaTek processor MT8183
  • MediaTek Integrated Graphics
  • 4 GB memory
  • 32 GB eMMC storage
  • 11.6″ 1366 x 768 HD touch display @ 220 nits
  • 720 HD webcam
  • Google Play Store
  • stereo speakers
  • 11.22 x 7.59 x 0.66 in
  • 2.36 lb
  • Auto Updates through June 2028

We’ll get our hands on this Chromebook ASAP and let you know if it’s worth adding to your budget-friendly wishlist. I suspect we will see some deals on the HP Chromebook 11a over the holiday shopping season but you can check it out now by heading over to HP at the link below.
