MediaTek posts record September revenue

IC design house MediaTek has reported consolidated revenue surged 15.7% sequentially and 61.2% on year to a record high of NT$37.87 billion (US$1.32 billion) in September 2020.
MediaTek's third-quarter revenue totaled NT$97.17 billion, rising 43.9% on quarter and beating the company's guidance range of NT$82.5 billion to NT$87.9 billion. The results also hit a quarterly high.
Robust 5G smartphone chip shipments led to MediaTek's impressive results in the third quarter, according to market watchers. The company's 5G mobile chips have attracted orders from a number of China-based smartphone vendors, as well as orders for 5G models rolled out in the US.
The watchers also expect MediaTek to enjoy a particularly strong fourth-quarter 2020 with flat growth or a slight decrease sequentially in revenue. The chipmaker is set to see its revenue top NT$300 billion in 2020 and hit an annual high.
MediaTek disclosed its cumulative 2020 revenue through September climbed 24.4% from a year earlier to NT$225.74 billion.
