Cyberpunk 2077 will not have ray tracing compatibility with the new AMD cards, at least not at launch. AMD's new graphics cards are set to deliver considerable performance upgrades to gaming PCs. AMD has boasted that its new devices outperform those of competitor Nvidia, but of course the company isn't exactly an impartial source.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most hotly anticipated games on the market for years now. The makers of iconic open-world RPG The Witcher III have promised a rich, intricate cyberpunk world, which players can explore through the eyes of a player character they can build with a nigh-unprecedented level of detail and freedom. The hype that this legendary game has generated have kept it alive throughout a long series of delays. The most recent pushed it back to December, and took everyone by surprise, including the developers of the game themselves. It's a testament to how promising the RPG looks that it's inspired enough loyalty to remain at the top of so many players' wish lists.
But players who are interested in the most high-end Cyberpunk experience possible might actually want to wait a bit after the game releases. Twitter user Souls Ninja recently asked CD Projekt Red global community lead Marcin Momot if the new game would support ray tracing with the new AMD graphic cards. Momot answered that this next-gen functionality would not be available at launch but that the team was already working closely with AMD to introduce it at a later date. No timeframe for when this addition might come was given, unfortunately.
Not for the release but we are working together with AMD to introduce this feature as soon as we can.

It's understandable that CD Projekt Red might need a little extra time to incorporate ray tracing with the new AMD chips. Ray tracing is a very potent technology, and it requires a lot of work to get going. Just recently, CD Projekt Red actually released the PC stats that will be needed to enable ray tracing, and they're understandably quite demanding. Even without the new AMD cards, players are going to need a real powerhouse of a PC to get the absolute best out of the new game.
The new generation of video game consoles represents a tremendous leap forward for the industry. The eradication of loading times and the possible implementation of ray tracing are very big developments that could change a lot about the way video games get made. Thanks to the work of companies like Nvidia and AMD, PC players won't be left out of this technical revolution. But at least when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077, they might still have to wait a little.
