Since you’ve landed on this post, there is a good chance that you have heard of the brand – MediaTek. To those unaware, MediaTek processors power several devices around us, be it smartphones, TVs, smart speakers, soundbars, routers, or other IoT devices. Realme announced a new Dimensity series of 5G capable mobile processors almost a year back, but we are yet to see the first MediaTek Dimensity powered device in India. In a recent interview with Techradar India, Mr. Anku Jain, Managing Director, MediaTek India has revealed that the MediaTek Dimensity powered phones aren’t launching this year in India.

To recall, Realme CEO, Madhav Sheth teased India launch of the Realme X7 series almost a month back. Realme X7 Pro has already received BIS certification, and a leak suggested that the Realme X7 series devices could launch in India as early as next month which is contrary to Mr. Jain’s revelation.

MediaTek P series processors were a step in the right direction!

MediaTek didn’t have a very good reputation in the market, at least in the mobile processor segment. Mr. Jain believes that the development of the P series SoCs was a step in the right direction. These processors not only brought good performance to the mid-range segment but also helped 4G LTE reach the masses. But the brand made headlines with gaming-focused Helio G series SoCs, last year. MediaTek brought the flagship-grade gaming performance to the mid-range segment with the Helio G90T, which powers popular devices such as Redmi Note 8 Pro, Realme 6, and more.

Since then, Android OEMs have been opting for MediaTek G-series SoCs for most of the entry and mid-range segment devices. Since the beginning of the year, we have been seeing popular devices powered by MediaTek Helio G series SoCs, such as Realme C3, Realme Narzo 10, Redmi Note 9, Redmi 9 Prime, POCO M2, POCO C3, Realme 7, Realme Narzo 20 Pro to name a few.

MediaTek Dimensity India debut!

Realme launched the X7 series devices, powered by MediaTek Dimensity SoCs in China a couple of months back. Last month, Realme CEO, Madhav Sheth teased India launch of the Realme X7 series devices. Mr. Jain has also confirmed that the Realme X7 series launch will mark the debut of Dimensity SoCs in India. Additionally, he revealed that these devices will make their way to India next year only. To recall, Realme X7 Pro and Realme X7 are powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1000+, and MediaTek Dimensity 800U processors respectively, both of which is built on a 7nm fabrication process.
