A new leak purports to unveil code-names for upcoming Zen3- and RDNA 3-based AMD products - Notebookcheck.net

AMD's System Management Unit (SMU) is a marker of this OEM's APU and GPU succession with respect to the IP involved. At least, this is how it is defined according to CoreTeks, a tech blog that asserts that this company's product-launch roadmaps can be divined through sorting existing and future chipsets by SMU over time.

Under this rationale, AMD's SMU11 covers Dimgrey Cavefish, Navy Flounder and Sienna Cichlid, code-names that reportedly denoted the Radeon RX 6800, 6800 XT and 6900 XT prior to their launch. They are lumped into this Unit with additional code-names: Van Gogh (currently thought to become the first mobile Zen2 APU with Navi graphics on its launch) and Arcturus (or the Instinct MI100 professional graphics solution).

SMU12, on the other hand, consists of what is overtly termed Renoir and the more mysterious Green Sardine. This is currently linked to Ryzen 5000-series processors. Most recently, CoreTek claims to have dug up the latest list of such names from the latest version of SMU13 (SMUsmu_v13_0_1), derived from AMD's recent firmware update.

It has thrown up 2 heretofore-unseen terms, the most puzzling of which is Yellow Carp. The blog now hypothesizes that it belongs to the Rembrandt series - or, most likely, Ryzen 6000. It is projected to have the updated Zen3 architecture, although it might also remain on RDNA 2-based graphics.

However, it shares the SMU13 category with an "MI200" - ostensibly the next-gen Instinct card, even if it lacks a fancy code-name this time around. CoreTeks now asserts that this may be a sign that Yellow Carp could be in line for RDNA 3 - as might the pro-grade card - after all. However, we may have to wait as long as 2022 to find out for sure.
