AMD has come up with a fix for USB disconnection issues on B550 and X570 motherboards.

The chip maker plans on issuing the patch through various motherboard vendors via an upcoming AGESA 1.2.0.2 update.

“With your help, we believe we have isolated the root cause and developed a solution that addresses a range of reported symptoms, including (but not limited to): USB port dropout, USB 2.0 audio crackling (e.g. DAC/AMP combos), and USB/PCIe Gen 4 exclusion,” AMD wrote in Reddit post on Thursday.

The company officially said it was investigating the problems last month following numerous complaints from AMD customers. The mysterious problem can cause the USB ports on an affected motherboard to temporarily shut down, and disconnect a mouse, keyboard, or attached external drive.

In Thursday’s post, AMD didn’t say what caused the USB disconnection issues. A company spokesman also declined to elaborate. But the chip maker plans on distributing the AGESA 1.2.0.2 update to motherboard partners “in about a week.”

“Customers can expect downloadable BIOSes containing AGESA 1.2.0.2 to begin with beta updates in early April,” the company added. “The exact update schedule for your system will depend on the test and implementation schedule for your vendor and specific motherboard model.”

In the event the disconnection issues persist despite the patch, AMD is recommending affected users download the company’s bug report tool and open a ticket with its customer support

To receive the AGESA updates, you’ll need to update the motherboard’s BIOS, which boots the PC’s operating system. It’s best to check out your motherboard vendor’s support center on specific instructions on how to install the update. But usually the process involves visiting the dedicated support page for your motherboard model to download the latest BIOS versions. You’ll then need to place the BIOS file onto a USB flash drive, which your motherboard can read to install the file.
