We might have our first glimpse of AMD's (Nasdaq: AMD) highly-anticipated Threadripper 5000-series CPUs, with a double leak revealing their presence in future desktop CPU line-ups as well as a possible launch date.
According to serial leaker Yuko Yoshida, who has dished out some accurate information in the past, the Zen 3-based Threadripper 5000 series will be launched in August this year.
The quote above translates to the stated August launch, but also that Yuko does not know if the new CPUs will be based on Zen 3 or some newer version such as Zen 3+. AMD has certainly had time to tweak Zen 3 and has had a plus model before with Zen+ and the Ryzen 2000 series. With Threadripper usually trailing mainstream Ryzen launches by a few months, this timeline does seem to fit in, although even with standard Zen 3, Threadripper would see huge improvements over the 3000-series.
Above is the latest changelog of HWiNFO and as spotted by Wccftech, next generation Threadripper is clearly stated and separate to Threadripper Pro, giving further weight to not-too-distant announcement from AMD.
MORE FOR YOU
All eyes have been on AMD's Ryzen 5000 series mainstream desktop CPUs since launch, with Intel struggling to keep up, even with the recent release of its 11th Gen Rocket Lake CPUs. AMD still has the upper hand when it comes to multi-threaded performance too, irrespective of what Intel managed to achieve with Rocket Lake and the likes of the Ryzen 9 5950X and indeed its 3rd Gen Threadripper CPUs are still without equal in Intel's line-up in terms of value and power efficiency.
Intel is expected to release its own high-end desktop CPUs at some point to replace its aging 10th Gen models that are largely out-done by the Ryzen 5950X and 5900X below and by Threadripper 3000 from above. It's likely that the current sTRX4 socket will receive it's first and final upgrade CPUs with Threadripper 5000, much like AMD's Socket AM4, which is expected to be phased out.
