The rumor mill has been abuzz with mentions of a Poco device (Poco X3, according to some source) designated to be the OnePlus Nord-killer. So far, the only thing we know is that it will come with a 120Hz LCD screen, which isn't a whole lot, considering that the Poco X2 also had the same spec. We now have our first look at what could be the Poco X3.
The alleged Poco X3 renders come from the Turkish Xiaomi fan site Miuiturkiye.net (via Ishan Agarwal). The renders show nothing out of the ordinary. We get to see a garden-variety quad-camera array and a hole-punch selfie camera. The former comes with a 64MP sensor at the helm, while the latter is a 20MP unit. Its 5,160mAh battery will support fast charging at up to 33W. Lastly, the Poco X3 will come with a 6.67-inch LCD panel that refreshes at 120Hz. It also has a touch sensitivity of 240Hz, making it an attractive buy for gamers.
One of the more exciting aspects of this Poco X3 is its choice of SoC. It is on the path to becoming the world's first smartphone to run Qualcomm's yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 732G SoC. A leaker prophesized that the chip would be released a Chinese phone sometime in September. The Poco X3 has a tentative release date of September 8, effectively confirming said the said leak. It is also worth noting that the OnePlus Nord's Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G can outperform the Snapdragon 732G, on paper at least. So, it's best if we take Poco's marketing shtick with a grain of salt.
The legendary Poco F1 was marketed as an affordable alternative to the OnePlus 6. If Poco plans to use the same strategy again, we can expect the Poco X3 to retail at the ~US$350 mark to undercut the OnePlus Nord. The Poco X3 will also be Poco's first original release since the company's inception in 2018. Most of their recent smartphones have been little more than repackaged Redmi devices, and it's great to see Poco innovating again.
